THANKSGIVING WINE PICKS TASTING
Mark Your Calendar!  Friday & Saturday, November 21st and 22nd
Our Thanksgiving wine picks are finalized and in stock, including this year’s magnum pick!

We will open all of our selections for the classic Thanksgiving menu over these two days.Early tasters on Friday will get to choose what they want opened for sampling. We have two sparkling wines, two rosés, four whites and four reds, plus the magnum of red. These wines are well worth tasting regardless of your Thanksgiving menu and we’ll be happy to make other recommendations if you’re not going the classic route. This is a great opportunity to get ahead of the inevitable time crunch that happens every Thanksgiving.

Wine list is available on our website at NOLAWineMerchant.com.

Right Place, Wrong Wine(?) Class

Thursday, December 4th  6:00pm

$95 per person – only 10 seats available, reservation required

We will taste five white Châteauneuf-du-Papes and five red Chassagne-Montrachets. These appellations are better known for the other color of wine and it seemed like fun to be able to do a deep dive on these ‘wrongly’ colored wines. These are rare selections, a few bottles will be available for sale but supply is limited.

To paraphrase Dr. John:
I been in the right place but it might have been the wrong wine
I been on the right trip but I must have made the wrong trade
My head is in a bad place, this doesn’t seem the right shade…

Featured Wines

Château Cantelaudette Graves de Vayres 2020

70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc.  This gem arrived recently and we are very excited about it!  Red and black fruits are both present and the wine has some structure but no hard tannin.

Although this is not from the Graves region south of the city of Bordeaux, it does have terrific minerality like wines from that more famous (and more expensive) region. This wine comes from the northern portion of Entre-deux-Mers and is across the Dordogne from Libourne, which is located near the western edge of Saint-Emilion and Pomerol. Bordeaux that tastes like this doesn’t come around very often at this price. We bought all 15 cases left in stock with our supplier and have already sold a few cases. Come get a bottle to try and then stock up.

Châteaumar Cótes-du-Rhóne
‘Cuvée Vincent’ 2023

This wine is 100% Syrah from a Châteauneuf-du-Pape producer.

The grapes for this wine are from two plots, both with 50+ year-old vines, that border Châteauneuf-du-Pape to the north. Aging is in concrete only, no oak. Red fruit is prevalent here with good weight and a little chalky tannin that just begs for something off the grill. A lovely change of pace from the usual Grenache-dominant wines from the southern Rhône and a Syrah with no weirdness of odd funkiness. We’ll have a bottle open this weekend.

Morin Pommeau de Normandie

We are so happy to have found this curious delight. Calvados is a distilled spirit made from apples. This is also made from apples but presents more like a dessert wine.

They take pressed apple juice that is not fermented, meaning it retains all of its natural sugars, and then they add Calvados that has been aged a few years, resulting in a gorgeous beverage that lands at about 17% alcohol. A perfect end to a Thanksgiving meal, a terrific pairing for apple pie or even chocolate cake. We have a bottle open, come try for yourself.
