For most of my years in the business, Meursault was the biggest, broadest, richest style of Burgundy. It was the go to for people used to drinking California’s big Chardonnays if they wanted to try something different but similar. We see people all the time either wanting Meursault because of that perception or wanting to avoid the village for the same reason. Lately, however, we have been tasting wines that show more acidity, akin to Puligny-Montrachet, albeit with a different overall expression. We will present wines that are all properly Meursault but might change the way you think about the appellation. We will taste some Bourgogne Blanc examples from Meursault producers as well as an array of village and single vineyard wines.
