About Us

NOLA Wine Merchant is located in New Orleans’ Uptown neighborhood on Magazine Street. With a friendly and knowledgeable staff with over 30 years of experience in the wine industry, NOLA Wine Merchant will guide you through our ample selections and help you select the perfect bottle to suit your preferences.

NOLA Wine Merchant focuses on Old World wines, especially Burgundy, but also stocks gems from around the world and at all price points. Most days there is a wine (or two) open for our customers to try, which, even if it’s not exactly what someone is looking for, will help figure out a winning recommendation.

We are committed to stocking our shelves with wines that speak of their place and are made in the vineyards.

Whether you’re trying to pair with a specific food or just want a delicious wine for the porch, we will find you a great bottle within your budget.

Geoff Worden, proprietor of NOLA Wine Merchant, has been matching customers with wines since the early 1990’s.  After graduating from Middlebury College, Geoff spent a summer traveling, and landed in New Orleans.  Expecting to stay for a few months and experience a winter without snow, he took what he believed would be a temporary job stocking shelves at Martin’s Wine Cellar to pay the rent and buy groceries.  Those months turned into years as he built a career in the wine business, working in both wholesale and retail capacities.

In 2021, he and his wife, Anne, purchased an existing wine shop, Hopper’s Carte de Vins, and renamed it NOLA Wine Merchant. Most days Geoff can be found at the store pouring samples, making wine recommendations, and yes, once again, stocking shelves.

Geoff’s passion and expertise for matching his clientele with the exact wines that they desire is the essence of NOLA Wine Merchant.  Each member of our team tastes and selects every wine that is put on the shelves to ensure that we can make the most knowledgable recommendations for you.
