A QUIET TRADITION CONTINUES
Welcome to Fall! It looks like we’ll see some lows into the 60s by the weekend and that means it’s finally time to celebrate by opening only red wines this Friday and Saturday (October 10th and 11th).

This has been a quiet tradition in the shop for a few years but we’re announcing it this time around. We have reds open all summer long, as you know, but when the first cool weekend arrives it’s time for us to focus exclusively on reds for a few days.

You don’t need a reservation and this won’t cost you anything to sample. We’ll start pouring tastes as early on Friday as someone wants one and we’ll continue right through to closing time on Saturday. Check out our Instagram to see what’s open.

Classes and Tastings

Muscadet Tasting
Thursday, October 16th
4:30pm-6:30pm
$30 per person – reservation required

Muscadet needs better marketing. While it is one of the most versatile, food-friendly wines available it is misunderstood. When we recommend Muscadet to people who are unfamiliar with the wine, inevitably the response is, “Is it sweet?” They hear Muscat or maybe Moscato and assume it to be sweet. They also usually see the classic tall, skinny bottles and that can reinforce the expectation of sweetness.
The wine is a perfect match for oysters and also works with all kinds of other seafood and carries itself well with salads, chicken, veal even on its own on the porch. Some are capable of aging and as those develop they can often be confused with white Burgundy. Join us for this exploration of Muscadet and its various styles. We will have a sparkling wine, some friendly, easy drinkers and some more serious versions, including some with age.

Gevrey-Chambertin Class
Thursday, October 23
6:00pm-7:30pm
$120 per person – only 10 spots available, reservations required

Join us for a deep dive into one of our favorite villages in Burgundy, Gevrey-Chambertin. We will feature pairs of wines that are chosen to both demonstrate a producer’s style as well as the differences between the 2021 and 2022 vintages. One pair will feature two different producers from the same lieu dit (single vineyard). We will also taste wines from the same producer at village level and premier cru in both vintages. Unfortunately we will not have any Grand Cru on the table but we’ll close with an Alexandre Dumas quote about a Grand Cru and let it extend to the rest of the appellation, “Nothing makes the future look so bright as surveying it through a glass of Chambertin.”

Featured Wine:
Vincent Girardin Bourgogne Blanc
Cuvée Saint-Vincent 2021

Despite our eagerness to embrace bigger red wines for the Fall, we don’t stop appreciating great white wines, especially Burgundy! We recently took delivery of the last 35+ cases of this gem and we got a better price that we are passing along to you!

Specifics about the exact sourcing of this wine have always been a bit lacking but the importer’s page says “The grapes come from parcels located in the regional area production of Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet.”

They also say the vines are 50 years-old. We can tell you how impressive the wine is for the price. This has some oak but no new oak is used, and what oak is present is well-integrated. It provides an accent to the flavor, it is not a dominant feature. While the wine presents with some hints of creaminess, the bright acidities of the 2021 vintage are still providing terrific balance and the wine will sing with a myriad of dishes. The style reminds us of Saint-Aubin with good texture, freshness and minerality. Come get a bottle or two and test drive it and then come back and load up because Burgundy that tastes like this at that price won’t last very long.
