MISA Imports Portfolio Tasting – Wednesday, January 22

Ain’t Dere No More
Red Bordeaux Tasting
– Thursday, February 6

We are easing into January with a bit more excitement than usual. We went on a buying spree in December, picking up a wide assortment of wines on sale to pass those savings along to you. The buying continued into January and we now have more nearly 40 wines to share at reduced prices, including some from our shelves that are on sale to make room for new selections.

CLOSEOUT EVENT
Beginning Thursday, January 16th at 3:00pm we’ll be opening bottles Thursday, Friday, and Saturday for two weeks in a row (unless you somehow clear us out the first week!) So join us January 16th, 17th and 18th and then again January 23rd, 24th and 25th. This is obviously much more fun for all concerned and lets you try before you buy!

At 3pm on Thursday, January 16th, we’ll open a few wines to start things off and after that if you buy the last bottle(s) of a wine you get to pick the next wine we open. The tasting and sale will continue through Friday and Saturday from open to close.

At the moment we have 35+ wines but are still ordering. There are some wines with less than six bottles and one with 15 cases in stock but for the most part we have less than 12 bottles of each wine. Rosés, Italian reds, a few Pinot Noirs, some sparkling wines (and one champagne) along with some simple Burgundy are examples of what’s in the mix but there are lots of others. Nothing is over $40 and most of the wines are under $25.

There will be a list available here once the sale begins. Be sure to join us for this tasting treasure hunt!

MISA Imports Tasting
Wednesday, January 22
4:00-6:30pm

This is a free event.  Registration is not required, unless you want us to send you a reminder.

Carole Decouard the National Vice-President of Domaines and Estates for MISA Imports will be paying us a visit on Wednesday, January 22nd from 4:00-6:30pm for a free tasting featuring wines from her portfolio. She is a wealth of information and insight and we are happy to welcome her to the store for this event!

We will feature mostly red wines, especially from the Rhône Valley but will also include some Burgundy and a Sancerre under $30 – we thought those didn’t exist anymore. Many of them are new wines to the store even though some producers may be familiar.

The lineup is as follows:
Raimbault-Pineau Sancerre 2023
Domaine des Granges Pouilly-Vinzelles 2021
Domaine J. Boulon Beaujolais Supérieur Vieilles Vignes 2023
Henri Latour et Fils Hautes Côtes de Beaune Rouge 2022
Domaine Poulleau Père et Fils Chorey-lès-Beaune 2022
Domaine Palon Vacqueyras 2022
Guillaume Gonnet Rasteau ‘Le Maestro’ 2020
Guillaume Gonnet Gigondas ‘Le Mentor’ 2020
Château de Vaudieu Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2021

We all know the concept of ‘ain’t dere no more’ in New Orleans and we’re leaning into it for this tasting. We will feature two wines that are no longer being produced, one of which will be a five vintage vertical! The other will also have the current wine being produced from the same vineyard.
Château Lalande-Borie in Saint-Julien has been part of the Ducru-Beaucaillou lineup since 1970 when the Borie family purchased 18 hectares of vines from Château Lagrange. They added some land to this over the years and used the Château as a place to experiment with various techniques before putting those practices into place at Ducru-Beaucaillou. 2018 was the last vintage under the Lalande-Borie label but the wine continues on as Le Petit Ducru de Ducru-Beaucaillou. We will taste the 2020 vintage of that wine along with the 2014 Lalande-Borie.

The main event here is the five vintage vertical of Les Grandes Murailles in St-Emilion. We bought a little of this a few years ago and fell in love with the wine. We bought a case of each vintage that was available on our last order from France and are happy to be able to share the wines before they disappear forever. Sophie Fourcade managed the estate, and its tiny 1.46ha vineyard, until it was purchased and annexed by neighbor Château Clos Fourtet. Her last vintage was 2021. The vineyard is planted to 100% Merlot with 7,500 vines per hectare – a very high density – which leads to more complex and interesting wines. We will taste her 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019 vintages.

As always, we will have cheese and meat from The Independent Caveau.

WINE BAGS
Our sturdy plastic bags get your bottles home intact, but we would love to use less of them. We are always happy to see people bringing their own six bottles bags, however they are branded. It makes us smile when we see the old Hopper’s Carte des Vins bags and we’re amused to fill up a bag from someone else’s store – as we assume they are when they fill one of ours.

If you don’t have one and would like one (and will re-use it), please ask for a NOLA Wine Merchant version and during January we’ll give you one free (regular price is $4). They’re heavy duty and every time you use one it delays our next order of plastic bags a bit longer!
