Exploring Riesling Tasting

A few times a year we review the depth and breadth of our selections. We like to share a few of the counts because no matter how often we access them, we always find them interesting probably because our store seems so small. Currently we have well over 900 different wines in stock and available for sale. Over 130 of them are priced between $21 and $30 and there are another 120+ options priced at $20 or less.

While we’re talking about inventory, we have officially taken delivery of the last of the Drouhin Bourgogne Blanc from the fantastic 2021 vintage. We tasted the 2022 last week and the good news, for now at least, is that the price remains the same. The less exciting news is that the wine has not yet settled into the gorgeous groove of the 2021. We’re confident it will get closer but it may take another few months in the bottle. In the meantime, we have a little over 20 cases of the 2021 that is round and fresh and absolutely delightful. It is a quintessential example of how Bourgogne Blanc should taste and it is under $20! Come get some before it’s all gone.

You know how much we love and support wines from Kermit Lynch and we have some new arrivals to share with you. Hippolyte Reverdy’s superlative Sancerres are here from the exciting 2024 vintage, both white and rosé! Those are in good supply for the moment. In much shorter supply are some Cru Beaujolais from members of The Gang of Four, specifically Jean Foillard and Lapierre! There are a few magnums available as well.

Just announced for August…
BURGUNDY TASTINGS!
Despite our focus on (and predilection for) Burgundy, especially at good prices, we don’t always have access to enough variety to offer tastings like the ones listed below. While tariffs have been less than what was threatened there appears to be an increase on the near horizon. Couple that with a weakening dollar, a short 2024 vintage and prices will rise before the end of the year. In the meantime, the wines featured in these two tastings are all available in decent quantities, so come take a tour (or two) of Burgundy with us.

Exploring Riesling Tasting
Thursday, September 4
4:30pm-6:30pm
$33 per person – reservation required

We love Riesling. It is a fascinating grape that can make crisp, racy wine but can also produce versions that present some sweetness (and less alcohol) for more of a session style, thirst-quenching approach. Then there are top-notch sparkling examples that can age gracefully and, of course, the classic dessert versions and just about everything in between. We believe one of the challenges about selling Riesling is a lack of understanding of the styles. Cheap, sugary versions are often what is available by the glass in a lot of restaurants and those are a deterrent rather than an invitation to try more Riesling. We will offer 10 wines from three countries covering six vintages and a wide range of styles. We won’t promise you will become a convert but you will have given the grape a fair chance if you attend. Already a fan of Riesling? Don’t miss this rare opportunity to taste these diverse and delicious selections!
