Piemonte means at the foot of the mountains, and at the foot of the Alps in northwest Italy this region produces some of the world’s great wines. Leading the pack in name recognition and price are wines from the DOCGs Barolo and Barbaresco. These wonderful Nebbiolo wines are known for their complexity and age-worthiness, but may not be everyone’s Tuesday night wines. Other Nebbiolos produced outside the big DOCGs also make beautiful, complex wines that are often at a gentler price point. We think the Piemonte region also produces great wines from other red and white grapes, including Arneis, Barbera, Cortese, Dolcetto, and more. Join Dave for this northwest Italian wine tasting and you might just find a few wines well capable of punching above their weight or new favorites for any day of the week. $30 per person, 20 spots available La Raia Gavi ‘Pleo’ 2023 Bonfante Roero Arneis ‘Perste’ 2022 Giordano Vino Rosso, 2023 Brovia Dolcetto d’Alba ‘Vignavillej’ 2021 Cantine Valpane Barbera del Monferrato ‘Rosso Pietro’ 2021 Bonfante, Barbera d’Asti Superiore ‘La Stella’ 2020 Vajra Langhe Rosso 2022 Angelo Negro Langhe Nebbiolo ‘Angelin’ 2021 A & G N Fantino Vino Rosso ‘Rosso dei Dardi’ 2021 Angelo Negro, Roero ‘Prachioso’, 2019 |

Fresh off a very vineyard focused visit to Burgundy, Geoff is bringing renewed enthusiasm and appreciation for the wines that come from this magical place. For the first class we will focus on Chablis with an assortment of premier cru wines. We will examine wines from the right bank and the left bank of the Serein River, which divides the appellation. The right bank lays claim to all of the Grand Cru vineyards. This side sees more sun and the wines tend to be riper. The left bank of the Serein offers lots of vineyards with varying expositions; the wines are generally thought to be more chiseled and precise. We will taste a total of ten premier cru wines split between right and left bank from six different producers and four different vintages! $70 per person, 10 seats available |

Savigny-lès-Beaune & Nuits-Saint-Georges Terroir Wednesday, October 9th 6:00pm-7:30pm $100 per person Call 504-227-3888 or sign up online! |
In a similar style to the right and left bank division of Chablis, Savigny-lès-Beaune and Nuits-Saint-Georges are also split appellations. The location of the town of Nuits in the middle of the vineyard area means the appellation has, essentially, two halves. We’ll explore the difference in the wines by tasting five wines from Philippe Gavignet, all from the 2021 vintage. A Bourgogne Rouge (all Nuits fruit) will set the tone and then we’ll have four Nuits-Saint-Georges, two from the southern half and two from the northern half. Domaine Pierre Guillemot will represent Savigny-lès-Beaune with five wines, all from the 2022 vintage. The Rhoin river splits the appellation into north and south sections. The exposure is very different; the vines essentially face each other across a small valley. We’ll taste a Bourgogne Rouge which technically could be three different wines and then move to four Savignys, including two premier crus, from different sides of the appellation. $100 per person, 10 seats available Domaine Pierre Guillemot 2022s Bourgogne Rouge Savigny-lès-Beaune Vieilles Vignes Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Grands Picotins Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Serpentièrs Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Narbantons Philippe Gavignet 2021s Bourgogne Rouge Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Argillats Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Chaboeufs Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Thorey Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Pruliers |
NOTABLE ARRIVALS |
Hippolyte Reverdy Sancerre Rosé 2023
We only received two cases of this (more will arrive in early 2025) so grab some soon for relief from the heat.
Note: This is not on the shelf, just ask us for a bottle or two and we’ll get them for you.
Quenard Chignin Gamay, Savoie 2021
100% Gamay from the French Alps, close to Switzerland. While it is recognizably Gamay, it is also clearly different than examples from the Loire Valley and Beaujolais. The fruit here is a bit more reserved but also more floral with crunchy acidity and loads of minerality that will make your mouth pucker a bit (happily).
Featured Wine for September |
Baron de Ladoucette Les Deux Tours Sauvignon Blanc, Touraine 2022
This is, far and away, the most Sancerre-like wine we have at a much better price. The producer makes Pouilly-Fumé and multiple Sancerres at significantly higher prices but this is from Touraine so it sells for less. The wine is focused and bright and a bit more serious than other wines we carry that are Sancerre-like. It is more for people that want the ‘real’ Sancerre style with complexity and intrigue and less for people who enjoy Sancerre because ‘it doesn’t taste like much.’
Lapierre and Foillard Beaujolais have arrived! Some are on the shelf but please ask about others if you’re interested. Limited availability, especially on Foillard.. |
