GIFTING IDEAS + RARE & UNIQUE OPTIONS Stumped for gift ideas? Looking for something different as a treat for yourself? Need an escape from the holiday hustle and bustle? These wines could be just the trick! We’re only including one Burgundy producer in this list, if you’re on this mailing list you already know to come see us for Burgundy. We are including some extremely rare and unique options. We have listed prices and quantities available so you can make an educated decision FRANCE Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Œnothèque 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2009 – Released (with fresh labels) direct from their cellars. 3 bottles of each available. La Vieille Julienne Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Trois Sources 2014 Last chance at this wine with some age. Lots of Grenache in this wine, bright red fruits and complexity from bottle-age. 45 bottles available. Domaine de Trevallon 2011 – 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Syrah from Provence. This is a different wine, for sure. Lots of earth, funk and general wildness. This is not for everyone but some will enjoy the ride. We recommend a decant of an hour or so and drinking it within another hour or so (based on a bottle we opened recently). 9 bottles available. Granges des Père Rouge 2018 – Laurent Vaillé worked with Eloi Dürrbach at Trevallon and created a vineyard using dynamite and bulldozers. He has an abundance of limestone and uses a Cabernet clone from Trevallon and a Syrah clone from Gérard Chave to make his red blend. The wine quickly achieved cult status and we’re lucky to have some available. Laurent passed away in 2021 and this is the last vintage he will have seen through from grape to bottle, though his family will continue to make the wine. 40% Syrah, 40% Mourvedre, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Counoise. 12 750ml bottles available and 2 magnums available. Château Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac 2019 – A rare purchase of First Growth Bordeaux for us. Yes, it’s still expensive but compared to a lot of listings we see online this is a relative bargain. We only have one six-pack and have left it sealed in case someone wants it all in its original wooden case. Bonnaire and Andre Penet champagnes will, sadly, again be unavailable in the local market (and maybe the U.S.) for some period of time. There is some legal dispute between them and their importer and a new distributor will need to be found. At any rate, the last of our favorites are in stock, so if you’re a fan, come get some before they’re all gone. Château Rieussec Sauternes 1997 – two bottles only. Showing more dried fruits and less overt sweetness, this is a treat for anyone who appreciates older Sauternes. We have tasted, it was well cellared. Jean Grivot magnums, Clos Vougeot and Richebourg 2020 These are not in stock but can be ordered. They are in New Orleans and can be available within a day or two. Sicilia Unico, Ribera del Duero 2010 – The best vintage we’ve tasted. Yes, it’s expensive but when it tastes like this it becomes more justifiable. 4 bottles in stock. ITALY We have 2 bottles each of eight(!) different Cru Riserva Barbarescos from Produttori from the fantastic 2016 vintage. A unique opportunity for a tasting. We also have 4 bottles of Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia 2018, a very polished Super Tuscan with very high and very consistent ratings. 2019 will arrive this week (a perfect 100 points from Decanter magazine). 6 bottles coming. UNITED STATES Frog’s Leap Winery – We will have one very large format here next week. The winery makes sensible, balanced wines and who doesn’t love a giant bottle of wine for a holiday feast? It should be drinking beautifully now, act quickly if you’re interested.
